We're always stocking the store. Whether making our own hand-dipped truffles (pictured), making our own fresh fudge, or getting in new gift items, we're often, at this time of year either making our products, ordering products (greeting cards, gifts, toys, puzzles, plush items and of course candy), or changing things around.

It's already proving to be another challenging year, as many of our vendors continue to experience issues related to Covid, supply chain logistics, or the weather (thinking of our Texas vendors right now). It reminds me, as we are stocking the store, about how much we are connected. Something happening in Texas or anywhere in the world for that matter, can affect us here in Cody, Wyoming. Thankfully we have the ability to carry some additional items and stock, so we can weather the supply chain hiccups, but it's caused us to panic just a little, in the past 12 months, because sometimes we wondered if we would run out before we got more supplies and products in the store.

We so appreciate our customers, both local and distant! As I type out these word, I realize again, that in order to stock the store, we need products that help our customers, so you can come in and get the items you need.

This is a slow season, but it's a good break and reminder to stock and be thankful for what we have. I know, sounds a little like a Thanksgiving post, but it's true. Stocking the store makes us all a bit more thankful, and hopeful, for another good year.

All of us at Cowtown Candy Company hope y'all have a blessed and fruitful year. We hope to see many of our customers as the weather clears and spring eventually returns. Summer is coming and we're getting stocked and ready.

The last time we made an entry on our blog was back at the beginning of Covid-19 and looking in the rear view mirror (so to speak), is kind of a blur. Here in Wyoming, our low population, even with a whole lot of visitors, has proven to give us a low spread of the virus and an increase of people looking for somewhere to feel normal for a bit. It's been a busy summer... maybe a bit busier feeling, as we also navigated the lack of a stable workforce. But God has been very good to us this summer and we are so thankful for the many folks who hoofed it into our store and took a look around. Many purchased items while many just looked. A lot of positive comments about our store. We're so blessed to get to operate a store here in our beloved community. Here's looking ahead to a pleasant holiday season. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and thankfully, a New Year. Thank you for reading and many blessings on you and yours!

I titled this entry "responding to a crisis", but the current crisis of the spread of a virus that has many people worried and governments and healthcare workers scrambling for answers is just one aspect of that crisis. There are many crises in small business, and how we manage will tell if we will be around tomorrow. Besides the Covid-19 virus crisis, our downtown is facing construction that is limiting access to businesses, and many people are staying away from downtown to avoid the construction.

So how do we respond to two distinct issues that we are facing at Cowtown Candy Company?

First, our response to minimizing the spread of any sickness: At Cowtown Candy Company, we don't allow our workers to work sick. We have always washed our hands religiously, and we keep all surfaces wiped down with health department recommended cleaners and disinfectants. However, while this minimizes risk, it doesn't guarantee that we work and serve our customers in a totally sterile environment; but we want our store to be as safe as we can make it and we are committed to that and we always have been!

But as people seek to minimize contact with others, we realize this may be a good time to let our customers know that we have always practiced safe food handling and we are always vigilant to maintain that practice. Second, our response to road construction in front of our store (approximately April 2020 through May 2020): We are offering our customers to park behind our store and enter through our back door. We have two parking spots by our back door, with more parking available near our back door. We will have signage to direct to our back door and we hope to minimize your inconvenience to access our store, by making our back door available at this time. This is also a good time to possibly call in your order and we can have it ready to pick up or we can deliver. 

These issues are facing every small business in your community, no matter where you live. It might not be road construction, it could be a personal crisis of some kind or the lack of good workers to help mind the store. Bottom line is, please remember to shop small and support your local businesses all the time.

We've been wanting to change our website and web store for several years now, to make it easier to navigate for our customers and easier to update and process for us.
